Blog 1 Cuilcagh Mountain (Stairway to Heaven)

12 July 2020

Hi I’m Aidy I’m an Irish photographer and filmmaker & I travel on road/day trips with my sister and partner in crime Tracey. Together we travel around parts of Ireland North & South and find the most amazing spots for photos and walks exploring what is on our doorstep.

Our 1st adventure began on 12 July 2020 shortly after the Big Lockdown ended and we decided to climb the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail or the Stairway to Heaven as it’s known (and believe me I know and felt why!) in County Fermanagh owned by the Marble Arch Geopark.

It was tough! I nearly gave up a few times and had little energy but after eating a Jaffa cake or two I powered on and once at the top I basked in the Amazing views it gave. It seems at every trip Tracey carries a box of Jaffa cakes with her for energy which is where the name “Jaffa Journeys” comes from.

Climbing Cuilcagh has been something I am proud of myself for doing and would recommend anyone do it BUT at your own pace. Make sure you get up and go early before the crowds gather. It was only as we began the descent around noon it started to get crowded especially at the top which leaves you little room to stand or sit and eat.

luckily we sat on a rock along the way and just off to the side of the trail and took a few moments rest before carrying on. I would recommend Hiking boots which… I did not have and be careful of the gravel and loose stone before the boardwalk on the way back down as you can easily slip.

Don’t forget to follow my Instagram a.mcphotography1 and my Facebook @A.McPhotography2 for all the latest with myself, future trips and other projects to come. if you want to message me about anything at all then feel free.

Until next time my friends Please...stay safe, healthy and keep exploring.
