Blog 20 Bessy Bell

Writer: Aidy McAidy Mc

Bessy Bell Windfarm. A lovely walk Between Omagh & Newtownstewart which stands at 420 metres high and is one of the Stunning Sperrin Mountain ranges. It is the 771st tallest Mountain in Ireland.

We set out around 10 am and drove from Omagh to find the starting point and with a little directions message from a Friend of Tracey’s we did. The walk although steep and with gravel and stone paths is enjoyable with Amazing views no matter where you stop. I would suggest wrapping up warm as it can get windy (obviously as it’s a wind farm) at the top and also bring water and some snacks. My snack of choice is, of course, Jaffa Cakes but I’ll leave that to you.

The rain held off thankfully until we got back to the car which was good as I only had a hoodie on over my T-shirt. Somehow I managed to remember my rain cover for the camera but not my jacket.

There are different paths throughout the walk which are private access for Baronscourt Estate and of course SSE for the windmills themselves but ultimately it’s a linear route so you should not get lost. Walks like this are Amazing as the information points on the sites tell you a lot of the history that you normally wouldn’t know and the scenery will make you appreciate the land around you and where you are from.

There will be plenty more walks to come and hopefully some further afield as soon as it’s safe to do so but until then we shall keep exploring the outstanding natural beauty that Fermanagh & Omagh District Council area has to offer.

Don’t forget to follow my Instagram a.mcphotography1 and my Facebook @A.McPhotography2 for all the latest with myself, future trips and other projects to come. if you want to message me about anything at all then feel free.

Until next time my friends Please...stay safe, healthy and keep exploring.
