Already, even with all the madness, the year seems to have flown by so quick. so many ups and downs and defiantly plenty of adventures. This one saw us going to Roe Valley near Limavady & let us just say I am SO glad I bought hiking boots because it was super muddy & slippy especially on the second half of the walk.
The start of the walk was lovely, we left the visitors centre after stopping for bathroom breaks and working out where the start of the route was, the sun had come out after a few days of heavy rain so we knew the river was going to be well up for some long exposure shots. on our way round, Tracey decided to climb down under a bridge for photos & was shouting up to me. I couldn’t help but laugh because the people who walked past me didn’t know where the noise was coming from. As we got around the walk we got closer to a gate so had to turn back & up a slight hill which took us to a bridge to the other side of the river. we stopped as there were two routes but Tracey decided to take the long walk which took us to a Church and main road.
We didn’t know if we took a wrong turn so walked around the churchyard until we saw a set of steps down behind a wall which was the continuation of the walk. A sign was posted warning us that this section had not been maintained, that's where the hiking boots came in handy. We ventured down a steep slope, holding on to the cliff face and hoping not to fall into the river below. I was so happy to get past that and onto flatter ground.
Once down we came to the edge of the river and as we walked along up and around came to another decline this time leading us to a bridge over the river. The walk seemed to go on and on for so long I didn’t know which side of the river was which at this point. we crossed the bridge and began to go down again closer to the river & as I looked back I saw several people in kayaks climbing into the river so I ran to the edge to get some photos as they went by. Throughout the rest of the walk I kept seeing them & getting closer shots of them as they went over drops in the river, we soon got back around to a wooded area so I lost sight of them but then realised where I was on the walk again so I was happy as I was nearing the end.
I captured some nice shots throughout the day and one, in particular, was of a lovely Farmer out walking in his wellingtons with a satchel and walking stick with his dog who also had a stick in his mouth. He stopped us greeted us and said to enjoy the rest of the walk & went on with his. I couldn’t resist the photo opp.
Once back at the car we decided to eat lunch and have our well deserved Jaffa Cakes before making out way down the road to a lovely dinner & relaxing evening. The walk overall was a lovely one & defiantly a place I would go again.
