Blog 15 Murlough Beach & CastleWellan

November 29th and our return to County Down and a well-needed walk on the beach. I had been working so much and a lot had been happening between working on a photography project for the Council & a few other things that we had not got to go on an adventure for over a week. We decided that it had to be a beach & were better than Murlough Beach & Nature Reserve.

The Journey was a lovely one, a slight bit of rain but couldn’t complain especially as I was in a festive mood with the music playing away in the car & sipping on my hot chocolate.

We arrived at the car park, got sorted & made our way down the path & you wouldn’t have thought you were at the beach as you walked through the boardwalk with trees and green grass around you. Once on the beach, we couldn’t see much as it was foggy, even the mourne mountains were not visible in the distance.

I felt so calm walking along the beach & got some lovely shots of couples and people out running along the shore as well as the typical beach photos, we then decided to stop at a point and walk through the boardwalks which took us back around through the dunes, up & down them in fact before leading back onto the beach and near our start point again.

We got back to the car and decided to eat lunch before driving to Castlewellan for a quick walk which was an experience all on its own. The car park was packed full of cars and people with very little social distancing going on so we parked away from the crowds and began our walk.

It was enjoyable though apart from kids & their parents near running us down on their bikes and some rude people along the way but I did enjoy the views and sitting by the lake whilst Tracey got her photos. Mum had asked us to pick up some Holly from somewhere & we did come across some there so decided to take a branch or two that had fallen off already.

I was so glad to get back to the car as the crowds got bigger and the walk got less peaceful than we had been used to especially with everything going on in 2020 so we got out of there as quick as possible & made our way home to unwind and relax after our 10.7-mile walk throughout the day.

I still maintain that Co Down has some of the most amazing walks & views that we have seen so far and is a great place to go but you would defiantly need to consider where and what time of day you visit to avoid the bigger crowds of people.

Don’t forget to follow my Instagram a.mcphotography1 for the shots of these trips, future trips and other projects to come you are more than welcome & if you want to message me about them or anything at all then feel free.

Until next time my friends Please, stay safe, healthy and keep exploring.
