December 9th, what should have been the biggest adventure to date! The Slieve League Cliffs. However!, that did not happen due to bad weather conditions which, we only found out when we arrived. we sat slightly disappointed but didn’t let it get to us too much so drove down to the bottom again and thought about where we could go & what we could do.
We decided that our first stop was a pier area we had seen on the way before making out way to Killybegs for some boat photography & a walk around the port but on the way, Tracey decided to take a detour for Muckross head ( not the Fermanagh one) famous for having EIRE laid out in white stones as it would have during WWII.
They were markers showing the neutral coastline of Ireland & also helpful markers for Pilots flying overhead. The walk around this cliff area was extremely windy & wet but we fought through it before making out way to the car. never have I been as drenched on one of our walks as I was that day.
Killybegs was in sight & we pulled into a car park & ate lunch, I decided to get out & grab a few quick photos before we made our way to Donegal town. Tracey didn’t share my enthusiasm at that point to get out of the car so stayed in the heat. We reached Donegal town and had dried off a bit so took a walk around taking photos and exploring some shops before we got Hot Chocolate and coffee.
Tracey had the idea of stopping at Murvagh beach for Christmas photos in our Christmas jumpers & candy canes so I bought a big fluffy Santa hat to wear for warmth & photos. On the beach, there were two other couples who both must have thought we were mad standing on a cold & windy beach in Christmas gear but hey, we are mad.
That adventure was honestly the best even with setbacks of not getting to Slieve League which is STILL on my list for 2021 as well as The Mourne Mountains (god help me).
We arrived back to Omagh to pick up Conor from school in our festive gear as he was wearing his and went home for dinner & relaxation. overall on this adventure, we had done 6.8 miles & over 14,000 steps but note to self triple check if your destination is open at the last moment.
