Away we go for Castle Crom Estate, A National Trust site which isn’t too expensive on the shores of Upper Lough Erne, County Fermanagh. after our usual stop we arrived ahead of time to a locked gate & sat confused as to what time the site opened & how to get in, but after a quick detour and stops we ended up back at the same gate, only this time it was opened. We drove on in & confirmed our booking with the attendant, arriving at a Castle & having your name on a list sounds pretty classy.
As we drove up the lane and followed the signs for the Carpark I loved how colourful everything looked & the view of the Castle was lovely. At the Carpark, there wasn’t an overly big crowd of people but one or two families so we set about getting sorted into our coats, hats etc & a quick bathroom break before setting off on the walk.
The first part of our walk took us to ruins of the old Castle or part of it at least which felt fairytale-like with the towers covered in greenery and the light coming through the window. I found a rose near the shoreline & decided to use it for some photos with the help of Tracey before she decided to see if she could throw it up into one of the higher up windows.
This section of the walk was rather dirty & muddy as it had been raining beforehand. We just went on with it as best we could until we reached a proper path.
Around the walk, we came to a stunning boathouse overlooking Lough Erne with a rowing boat sitting moored up. There was water inside it from the rain which made it look like it was sinking & Tracey nearly got into it for photos until she saw it. once we sat there for a bit & got our photos we set off on around again.
I wanted to go get photos of the Castle itself but there was a sign beside a gate with no fencing around it saying Private residence which I thought was funny & so pointless.
We got to the bridge which led to another section of the estate walk and one of my favourite shots at a pier area & of course Tracey climbing something to a photo up high. we ventured through a muddy forest area of the trail for the fun of it but ended up going back as it got too muddy & stopped at a big tree & got a sloth style photo of Tracey handing from it even though I would be more of a sloth than her.
The walk was a Calming one with Great scenery and views which was around five-mile give or take. We finally got back to the car when it started raining & the car park had got busier so we sat & ate lunch there before leaving. On the way home, we stopped at Castle Balfour for a look & then home to relax with dinner & tea & Christmas movies on the tv.
