Back again with another Adventure & as you would expect we went to Fermanagh…Again!. The day started typical with McDonald's Stop and journey start bumpy winding roads, Tracey driving and me sitting trying not to spill my Hot Chocolate. Our drive was one hour or so away from Omagh & Tracey was fine for directions until we reached the Lough Shore Road by Enniskillen Castle & that is when we stuck on Maps.
One thing I will point out is that when you get there and see a lay-by and an info sign then STOP! or you will end up driving to someone's farm & have to turn back as we did. We parked up and got our rain jackets on as it had been pouring down that morning and set off up the walkway until we came to a sign for Pollnagollum Cave, which I did not expect to be at the start of the walk. The cave, of course, is not accessible unless supervised by Marble Arch but the views of the waterfall and around it are perfect for some long exposure photography.
We stayed there & got photos and took in the air for a few minutes before setting off on the main walk which is around a 4.3-mile circular route with lovely views and some steep inclines & declines. I will, however, point out that is not always well marked & to avoid heading toward the Quarry but rather down the steep decline & the markers will before visible again. The Terrain was slightly rough at times with deep puddles and holes throughout.
We finished up the walk in a good time slightly soaked but refreshed & the weather decided to get better by then so we decided to go for a visit to Portora Castle briefly which was a small quiet site & then onto Castle Archdale for photos and another brief walk. Social Distancing was easy enough around the main Courtyard area as it had been quiet but the walk is usually quite busy as it is a popular walk, but we made it work & shortened the walk for us before heading back to the car.
The day was a lovely one even with the rain that morning & I enjoyed getting the Long exposure shots at the Waterfall.
If you have an early start you can surely visit more than one of the places on your adventures and still have the rest of the day to enjoy & relax or, if your like me to sit and sort through your shots and edit your favourites.
This blog and the next few have been in Co Fermanagh & Tyrone Mostly and will be for a while Partly due to COVID but also because we aim to visit all the Geo parks when we can and are doing well with another two crossed off the list.
